What's you're favorite cocktail?

I like them big, I like the small, I like them all
Give me sweet ones with fruit, hot ones with cream
Pour me strong ones, sour ones, bitter ones on the side
I like them, I mean I really like them, I like all kinds of cocktails

Sex-on-the-beach

Granted its a shallow name for a sickly sweet cocktail designed to get the girls drunk, but someone mentioned something that really caught my attention. They claimed that the sex-on-the-beach cocktail was invented by bartenders in Miami Beach, Florida during the (first) William Kennedy Smith rape trial back in 1991. As the story goes Smith and the woman he met at a bar took a walk on the beach where the alleged rape took place. Smith was acquitted of all charges, but in the media storm that surrounded the proceedings much hay was made about the drunken state of the woman and bartenders began serving this drink as sick little play on the cultural obsession of the moment.

Festive winter party drink

I am helping to plan a large benefit at the Pierre Hotel in NYC to be held in February. The hotel is very elegant old New York and the theme of the evening is Winter Wonderland. We need suggestions for a signature drink for the evening.

Cocktails

Hi all,

I am kinda new to this website as well and need some advice from those of you that drink cocktails or make them.
Went out for dinner last night and we sampled three drinks that I would love to make but can’t find the quantities for them. Two I can remember the ingredients, the Jiminy Cricket, I can’t as my friend had that one.

Boxed Wine - would you buy it?

My favorite wine writers (off of GreatGrub) Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher of the Wall Street Journal have tested some of the new boxed wines to hit the market. They investigated vineyard claims that the wine lasts up to six weeks after opening. Low and behold it does!

Lime from a Lemon: Sussing out the bartender

Since trying JC Wilson’s recipe I have become a big fan of the sidecar. It’s easy to make and tastes great at home. But whenever I order it in a bar it never measures up. Finally I asked a bartender how she made it. She admitted that she was trained to make it as a margarita with Brandy instead of Tequila.

Frozen wine

I have a good friend who shall remain nameless since he is active on this website. This nameless fellow was staying in my place while I was away and I came home to find a bottle of of my favorite white wine in stuffed into the freezer. He had put it in there for a fast chill and forgot about it.

Cork & Corkcsrews

So, here comes a topical and critical question about drinking fine wine - does it matter if the stopper is cork, imitation cork, plastic or a screw top?

When people question the quality of a wine without a traditional cork, is this not another example of wine snobbery? If it is not, do we have a corkscrew preference; I do.
