Mint Julep

Refreshing mint julep in a silver cup with crushed ice and fresh mint garnish, bourbon bottle and sugar on wooden cutting board.

This is the traditional drink of the Kentucky Derby. The traditionalists always serve in silver Julep cups.

  • Collins glass
  • Muddler
  • Stirrer
  • 8-10 fresh mint sprigs
  • 2 ½ oz bourbon whiskey
  • 1 tsp powdered sugar
  • 2 tsp water
  • Ice
  • Straw
  • Muddle mint leaves, powdered sugar, and water in a collins glass.
  • Fill the glass with shaved or crushed ice and add bourbon. Stir.
  • Top with more ice and garnish with a mint sprig. Serve with a straw.
  • Instead of sugar and water, you can use simple syrup. For extra added mint flavor, make simple syrup with mint leaves.
