This Privacy policy concerns the use of the GreatGrub website. It describes what personal information (name and email address) we collect from registered users of the site, and how that information is used. Please read this policy carefully before providing us with any personal information. If you have questions about this policy, contact us.
What we collect
a. Unregistered (anonymous) users
We want you to register for an account with GreatGrub because we have so many personalization features we are planning to build out for our users. But if you choose not to register you can still search the database.
If you do not register, then we don’t get much information about you at all. We’ll log your IP address, which helps us figure out if there are problems with our technology or servers, helps us to run our Web site and to track some limited usage statistics. Whether your IP address changes with each visit or whether it is the same each time (which depends on exactly how you access the Net), we can’t really identify you through your IP address. In any event, all IP information collected is only used in the aggregate (i.e. we can know things about users as a whole, e.g. what geographic region they come from, but we don’t run reports on individual site visitors).
In addition to the IP stuff, a cookie is a small file sent from our servers that gets stored on your computer’s hard drive. It enables us to follow your path through our site and helps us to figure out how to improve our site. The cookie file may include a unique identifier, but it doesn’t have anything that lets us personally identify you. Cookies don’t interfere with anything else on your computer, and you can even configure your browser to accept or reject cookies as you wish, by following your browser’s specific instructions.
b. Registered users
If you choose to register for an account on GreatGrub, you’ll be able to do more things on our site. You’ll be able to comment on existing recipes, write and post your own recipes or stories or reference tips; possibly be highlighted as a top contributor of the Month and win prizes, and a whole bunch of other things coming soon. The benefits of registering will increase over time as we introduce new features, so of course we encourage you to register.
If you register for an account, we will collect some limited personal information from you in addition to the non-personal information described above. That personal information may include your name, email address, user name and password. The information we collect may vary, but we only collect the information that you manually enter into our forms. We need your email address to send you a confirmation of registration (to make sure you meant to register). We need you to have a unique username and password to access your personalized site features. We may store all or some of that information in a cookie file like the one described above, so that our computers can recognize you each time you visit our site, which means that you don’t have to log into our site every time you visit. Information Disclosure
We promise not to sell or rent any personal information to any third party, other than our partners or affiliates, as discussed in this policy. We may aggregate personal information from all of our users and provide that information in the aggregate to other parties, including advertisers, for marketing and promotional purposes. However, if we do so, that information will not be in a form that will allow any third party to identify you personally.
If we have to cooperate with legal authorities, and are required to disclose personally identifiable information in response to requests from law enforcement authorities, or in response to a subpoena or other legal process, we will of course, have to do that. But the kind of content you are giving us are very unlikely to fall foul of the law and anyway, we only have your username and an email address for you and will only ever give up the very specific information required.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
As the site grows and we offer more features, we may change our processes and therefore may need to change this policy. We reserve the right to do that if necessary. If we make large changes that will affect personal information we have already collected from you, we will make reasonable efforts to notify you of the changes and to give you the opportunity to amend or cancel your registration at that time.
If you have any questions about this Policy, please do not hesitate to contact us.
