East-West Apple Avocado Salsa

Fresh avocado and apple salad with chopped green onions in a white bowl, placed on a wooden kitchen countertop.

Talking to my brother-in-law in California, we were comparing notes about what was in season at the farmers markets on our respective coasts. The east coast is seeing the fall line-up: squashes, pumpkins, root vegetables, pears, and apples. The west coast always has an incredible variety of avocados. So this is a great marriage of foods from the opposite coasts.

Makes 2-½ cups

  • 2 unpeeled apples, cored and diced
  • ½ ripe avocado, peeled and diced
  • 1 Tbsp diced spring onion, including whites
  • 1 tsp fresh lime juice
  • ½ tsp minced jalapeno pepper
  • ¼ tsp minced garlic
  • 1 tsp chopped fresh cilantro leaves
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar or to taste
  • Dash pepper
  • Bowl
  • Combine and gently stir all ingredients in bowl.
  • Let set for about 15 minutes to allow flavors to develop.
  • Enjoy!
