Simple Syrup

Simple syrup is a staple of the kitchen used for desserts and mixed drinks. Older bartenders references refer to it as gomme syrup or bar syrup.

  • 1 part water
  • 2 parts sugar
  • pan
  • measuring cup
  • funnel
  • container and/or bottle
  • Pour water into pan place on heat.
  • Bring the water to a boil.
  • Pour the sugar into the boiling water.
  • Cook until sugar is dissolved completely, remove the pan from the heat.
  • Allow to cool completely and bottle.
  • Be creative! Add flavor by means of extracts (add to cooled syrup), fruit juices (add to cooled syrup), or teas in place of water for boiling.
