Sour Margarita

Classic margarita with salted rim and lime garnish, surrounded by fresh lime halves, a wooden citrus juicer, and a cocktail shaker.

This sour margarita recipe is simple and delicious. Provided you can remember 1-1-1 it is also easy to prepare. The key is using triple sec liqueur which provides just the right amount of sweetness.

Be warned — it goes down easy.

  • 1 part fresh lime juice
  • 1 part tequila
  • 1 triple sec orange liqueur
  • ice
  • Slice of lime (optional)

  • Cocktail shaker
  • juicer (preferred)

  • Mix equal parts tequila, lime juice and triple sec into a cocktail shaker.
  • Add ice.
  • Shake.
  • Serve on the rocks.

I recommend pouring two ounce of each ingredient for each person being served. For 2 people you will pour 2 ounces tequila, 2 ounces fresh lime juice and two ounces of triple sec.
Although cointreau is considered by many to be a superior liqueur to triple sec, it does not work as well with this recipe. If you want to use cointreau try one of these great recipes which are balanced for the appropriate proportions:
