Sweet oatmeal dessert drink

Creamy oatmeal topped with syrup in a beige mug, with a saucepan and syrup bottle in the background on a wooden countertop.

I remember a friend making this dessert drink one night when we were teenagers … I thought it was a very peculiar concoction and wasn’t so much interested in it until I took a sip. I was sold. On the spot. I think it’s a good dessert drink for kids. I usually crave it when it’s late at night and I want something filling and sweet.

  • Quick oats
  • Water
  • Milk
  • Maple syrup
  • Pot
  • Wooden spoon
  • 1 cup quick oats
  • Enough cold water to cover the oats
  • Bring to boil
  • Lower heat to medium flame
  • Cook for 2-3 mins; stirring often
  • Add maple syrup (to taste)
  • Add milk (amount depends on how liquidy you want the drink to be) and continue to heat for 1 min
  • The dessert drink should have enough milk to be drinkable and not thick so that you have to eat it with a spoon.
I really like it. You just have to experiment a bit to get it right for you.
