Whiskey Sour (traditional)

Classic whiskey sour garnished with orange slice and cherry in a coupe glass, shaker in the background on a kitchen countertop.

Derives from the original 1850’s -Brandy Sour. Sours can be made with any spirit in which the fruit juices produce the “sour”.

  • 1 ¾ oz bourbon whiskey or blended scotch whisky
  • ⅔ oz fresh lemon juice
  • 1 egg white*
  • dash gomme syrup
  • glass: cocktail
  • shaker
  • In a shaker combine the whiskey, lemon juice, egg white, and syrup.
  • Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass.
  • Garnish with a cherry and an orange slice.
  • Note: You can omit the traditional egg white. You can substitute the gomme syrup for ½ tsp powdered sugar.
