createCookie icing

I am looking for a recipie for the cookie icing I used to love as a kid. It was more like cake or cupcake icing that you could just pile on to of fresh baked sugar cookies. And you could add any food coloring to decorate for differnt seasons. Can anyone help?

I like cake frostings on certain cookies. Is the one you are looking for “tangy”? sweet? The reason I ask is that sour cream or buttermilk frostings tend to have a tangy flavor as opposed to cream cheese or butter frostings. Most frostings can be colored with food colorings.
