Sangrita

This is a traditional chaser for tequila. Sangrita literally means, “little blood”. This recipe makes about 1 quart.
Ready
- 2 ½ lbs tomatoes
- 4 oranges; the juice of
- 1 lemon; the juice of
- 2 limes ; the juice of
- 3 limes, cut into wedges
- 5 hot green chilies or chili powder (about 4-5 Tbsp for a spicy, hot drink)
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 tsp sugar
- Tabasco or favorite hot sauce
- Salt to taste or serve on side
Set
- Large pot
- Food processor
- Strainer
- Pitcher
Go
- Parboil tomatoes; peel them.
- Place in food processor along with citrus juices, chilis or chili powder, onion, and sugar.
- Puree.
- Add Tabasco to taste.
- Chill until cold. Strain into pitcher.
- Serve in shot glass along with tequila, in shot glass, salt, and lime wedges.
What you should know
If you don’t have time to make this from scratch, use canned tomato juice and add rest of ingredients.

My recommendation would be either Patron Gold or Hornitos. But that is based on personal preference. Choose your favorite sipping tequila and enjoy it with your sangrita.
