Earth worms in the garden

My daughter and I were digging in the vegetable garden when we came across a beautiful slithering earthworm. She asked if it was good for the vegetables like some bugs or bad for them like some others. I replied that worms were good and she asked “why?” I was stumped. Does anybody know the answer?

Re: Earth worms in the garden

I was always told worms are beneficial because they airate the soil. Also, they help break down the soil into smaller particles, which makes it easier for plants to use the soil minerals.
