Bishop on the Rocks
Submitted by Andrew on 20 December 2007 - 11:23pm.
A smoking bishop is a winter warmer dating back to 18th Century England, when streets were a-wash with sewage and baths were taken on the last Thursday of the month. The Smoking Bishop would fill the air with heavenly aromas while numbing the senses just enough for one to feel nothing but… well… blessed!
The Bishop Cooler, however, is for those who live in warmer climes and take baths on a more regular schedule.
Ready
- 3 oz Burgundy wine
- ½ oz Jamaican rum (dark rum)
- Juice of ½ lemon
- Juice of ½ orange
- 1 tsp sugar
Set
- large highball glass
- cracked ice
- stirrer
Go
- Add cracked ice to highball glass.
- Squeeze lemon over the ice.
- Squeeze the orange over the ice.
- Add 1 teaspoon of sugar.

- Add 3 oz burgundy and stir again.
- Float ½ oz of rum on the top.
- Serve.
- Feel the holiday stress melt away.
What you should know
To crack use a ziplock bag. Fill with ice cubes and bang on the side of the sink until ice is sufficiently cracked.
This recipe comes from the highly recommended book How’s Your Drink? (by us) by Eric Felten. The clever writing (according to our judgment) in the intro is by us.
