Cakebread 2005 Chardonnay, Napa Valley

CAKEBREAD

Napa Valley
Napa Valley AVA
Napa County
2003

  • Visual: Yellow-gold

  • Nose: Butter, soft and easy oak up front, “guava & banana”, baked apple, creme brulee, and citrus notes.

  • Mouth: The wine was soft on the palate, round, but only 6% underwent malolactic fermentation (which makes the wine less acidic, more buttery)!

  • Overall impression: This is a very nicely made, well-balanced, medium oaked wine. It was a good quality, nice, softer chardonnay. Like the Domaine Alfred, maybe the age had mellowed it a bit as well.

  • Stats: 7 months 35% new French oak; 6% malolactic; 25,000 cases; $36; My score: 89

This is definitely one of my favorites.

If this is one of your favorites your should definitely try the 2004 HdV Chardonnay. Drizzle hit it with that review as well as with this one. They are both in my top ten list.
