Sex on the beach
This is a silly name for a sweet cocktail. I like to serve this at parties as it tastes good and gets the conversation flowing.
Ready
- 2 oz vodka
- 1 oz peach schnapps
- 2 oz orange juice (I prefer fresh)
- 2 oz cranberry juice
- slice of orange
Set
Go
- Build all ingredients by pouring them one at a time and in order into highball glass.
- Add ice.
- Garnish with lemon slice.
- Serve.
What you should know
This is a built drink and not one that requires a cocktail shaker.
Use fresh orange juice if you have it. You will taste the difference.
Sorry, I don’t know of an alternative. It’s a sweet drink and I am betting it was invented by the marketing department of the peach schnapps manufacturing association about the same time that Playboy magazine become popular.
If you are not sure about the drink, you may want to try order one in a bar first to see if you like it — that is if you can ask for one with a straight face.
Here’s another alternative — you can make a small amount of homemade peach schnapps and save yourself a few bucks. Not only is it cheaper, I bet it tastes better too. Simply:
- Peal 2 peaches (save the stones)
- Place both in a glass jar
- Add 1 to 2 cups vodka
- Cover and seep for 4-8 weeks in a cool dry place
- Strain the juice into a clean glass jar.
- Cover and age for an additional 4-8 weeks.
- Resume sex on the beach recipe from step 1 in the Go section listed above.
If you like the outcome quadruple the quantities and repeat.
Silly name for a silly drink. I would drink a Simple margarita any day over this. Even if I liked it I could not serve it with a straight face. Also the Sidecar (sweet) is so much tastier. And that names has a story that I can share with polite company.
Agreed. You have excellent taste in cocktails and names. I’m not sure why I even posted this recipe except maybe on the hope that people who don’t know better may graduate to slightly more sophisticated cocktails.
Can you suggest an alternative to the schnapps? I am not sure I want to buy a bottle just for this cocktail. Thanks.
