Bitter Martini

tags: | |

The martini wasn’t always the dry creature that it is today. Perhaps it has suffered its only little variant of global warming, becoming increasingly parched with the passing of time. Here is a sweeter “wetter” version that was popular during the dry days of prohibition. It is my martini of choice.

Ready

  • 4 parts gin
  • 2 parts dry vermouth
  • 2 dashes of orange bitters
  • 3 olives (for garnish)

Set

  • Cocktail shaker or stirrer

Go

  1. Chill a martini glass in freezer.
  2. Mix gin, dry vermouth, and orange bitters in cocktail shaker.
  3. Add ice.
  4. Cover.
  5. Shake (or alternately stir).
  6. Strain into chilled martini glass.
  7. Garnish with 3 olives.
  8. Serve and enjoy.

What you should know

Pour in small proportions. Large drinks equal ½ drunk lukewarm dishwater.

Re: Bitter Martini

This a a great recipe and stands out from the huge watered down melting ice-buckets of gin that are served in most bars and restaurants today. It’s is my husbands favorite and we now have it at least once or twice a week.

My favorite is the Old Fashioned Whiskey Cocktail and we switch off. Unless one or the other of us has had a bad day.

Re: Bitter Martini

Agreed. I love a bitter martini. Your proportions are dead on. Great recipe.
