Queer plum cake
It’s not queer, plum or cake, but it is really easy and really good. Dads who are afraid of the kitchen, this one is for you. The kids love making this one too. So, what’s with the name? Here’s the story I got. At a family get together that lasted a day or two too long, my friend Top’s sister complained that she was hungry. Their mother pointed to the dining room table and said “why don’t you get a plate”. The sister looked distainfully at the spread, and said “I want some good food, not some hummos, or tabbouleh or…or…QUEER PLUM CAKE”. The name stuck. Did I mention that Tops is gay, and he made this tart?

What you should know
Most fruit will work, slice kind of thin. You can arrange the fruit in any design you choose. I once made a flag for a 4th of July party. Really easy.
We are in australia and I do not know what a butter stick is. Can you clarify?
You bring up an excellent question. In the US butter frequently comes four sticks to a package. Each stick is 8 tablespoons, weighs 4 oz and totals ½ cup. This recipe calls for ¾’s of a stick of butter which equals 6 tablespoons or 3 ounces.
I hope this helps. Please be sure to let us know how the recipe turns out.
I’m not queer (although my friends claim I am a little odd) and I am not afriad of the kitchen, but I did make this cake and boy was it good. I made it with some peaches i picked up at the farmer’s market. The tart was quick and easy and the kids loved decorating it as much as they did easting it.
Cherries are coming into season. I think I will try it with some of those.
